Wilma became the first flying nurse from West community. She entered the army in May 1943.
She was a flying nurse in England, where she spent three weeks at he Eight AAF Flying Fortress base (May/June 1944) and spent several hours actually flying one of the Fortresses. In August 1944 she was assigned to the IX Troop Carrier Command in the European theatre
