Frank Mateja grew up in Dorchester, entered the military service in June, 1942. He graudated from the Commando School at Camp Roberts and attended the Paratrooper School.
His overseas duty began in October, 1943. He was awarded Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
