He enlisted to the army on July 23rd, 1942. received preliminary flight instructions at the Pasco, Washinhton Naval Air Station in April 1943 and graduated in June from the Naval Air Training Center, Corpus Christi, Texas. He was released from the army on August 15th, 1949. He later served again between February 1953 and June 1956.
