He received two military decorations during the Italian Campaign. First for his bravery in battle on 6th December 1943 when he was helping injured soldiers despite his own injury. He received bronze Star Medal for this action. Then he received Oak Leaf Cluster with Bronze Star Medal for his action from 31st May 1944 when he saved wounded soldier during bombing attack.
