He was one of the first two dead soldier of Czech descent in the U.S. Army who died during the WWII. He served at the USS Arizona at the time of attack at Pearl Harbour. He was most probably the last crew member to be evacuated from the sinking ship and died several days later during his transfer to San Francisco.
He is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minesota.
