He served in Australia and in are around Java and New Guinea. He was there since the early December 1941. He participated in Battle of Java. In October 1942, he was named a commander of one of the United State' s Flying Forresses operation in New Guinea area.
He was awarded Silver Star Medal and Air Medal.
